The elections in May this year are the first since the UK left the EU, and the first since Keir Starmer assumed the leadership of the Labour Party. They represent a vital chance for Labour to grasp control of some of the most important institutions in British life, from local councils to the devolved legislative bodies of Scotland and Wales.
