Discussion on the developments in the Banking Union (BU), nearly 10 years after its first mention in the roadmap for a more integrated financial framework. Significant progress has been achieved since the great financial crisis and euro area crisis. And yet, several challenges remain in the BU construction, and among them, fragmented banking markets and a missing pillar for common deposit insurance.
