If you fear to go out because of them then you let them limit your freedom through their aggression\, but it’s worth being careful. You know your area\, you may want to consider moving about in company\, avoiding certain places\, and being mindful not to engage in any interaction that could become confrontational. \nThis page is a citizen to citizen call-out. There is no organisation behind it. But if you share the hope\, then share this as widely as you can\, and register to get further info nearer the time. Let’s follow the example of Sardines Against Salvini and movements across Europe. Let’s gather together and show the world : \nOUR SOLIDARITY with all who are being scapegoated\, dispossessed and intimidated under the current politics of “deceive\, divide and rule”. \nOUR DETERMINATION to resist the Brexit programme of deregulation and exploitation\, defend our NHS\, and restore all economic\, social and citizenship rights being taken from us. \nOUR RECOGNITION that – more people voted for progressive parties than for the Johnson-Cummings regime – only 1 in 9 UK young people currently aged 16-38 voted for Brexit whereas twice as many voted against it* – Johnson is pushing ahead despite Scotland\, Northern Ireland and Wales refusing consent. \nOUR HOPE that eventually our country will reunite with our neighbours in working for human dignity\, solidarity\, peace and cooperation\, and in fighting together against real threats such as climate change. \nITALIAN SARDINES: https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/boris-johnson-nationalism-salvini-far-right-italy-sardines-protest-a9270976.html%3famp \nCZECH KEYS: https://theshiftnews.com/2018/03/20/the-jingling-of-the-keys/ \n*Estimate based on 0% of 16-21 year-olds and 2/3 of 22-38 year olds having been registered to vote in 2016\, of which a little less than 2/3 turned out to vote in the referendum. Amongst those that voted in the referendum those at the time aged 18-24 voted 27% Leave against 73% Remain\, and those aged 25-34 voted 38% Leave against 62% Remain.

SUMMARY:À bientôt EU\, see you soon
DESCRIPTION:FRIDAY 31st JANUARY 2020. \nOn Friday 31st January\, Come and join me to say goodbye to our old friend. Be happy for the times shared\, sad for the times we’ll part\, and express yourself and your love for the friendship we’ve had and hope to have again one day soon. \nWith the permission and co-operation of The London Metropolitan Police I invite you all to join me in a procession from Downing Street to The European Commission in St. John Smith Square. \n\nWe will be congregating at Richmond Terrace opposite Downing Street from 2.30pm. We will promptly set off at 3pm in an orderly procession along the pavement making our way to St. John Smith Square following the route a ministerial car would take and as in the diagram below. \nIf there are any instrumentalists perhaps you could bring your instrument to accompany us singing “Ode to Joy” once there and some other songs. (Yet to be announced). \nThis is not a march but an orderly and peaceful procession to bid a very fond farewell for now\, to our dear and much appreciated friends from all of us who will fight to rejoin our family of nations in the EU as soon as possible. \nThere will be a Facebook page launched soon for the event entitled\, À Bientôt EU\, see you soon \nI look forward to seeing you all on the day. I can think of no better way to mark this day than to honour and thank all the staff at The European Commission\, for this will also be their last day in office. \nIt is not the end\, it is but a pause in time for we know that one day we will be together again. \nAs Winston Churchill wanted\, We think as much of being European as of belonging to our native land and this is how it shall stay from this day forth. \nPeter French.\n17 January 2020.

SUMMARY:Far from 'settled': How can we protect the rights of vulnerable EU citizens
DESCRIPTION:Panel Discussion and Q & A:\nThe UK Government’s EU Settlement Scheme is deeply problematic. Thousands of vulnerable EU citizens living in the UK are likely to slip through the net and fail to apply by the deadline of 30 June 2021. Those affected will find themselves undocumented\, and subject to the Home Office’s ‘hostile environment’. \nScott Ainslie\, Green Party MEP for London\, is hosting a lunchtime panel discussion for organisations and individuals who want to learn more about the EU Settlement Scheme – including how you can help to ensure vulnerable EU citizens secure their new status to remain in the UK.

SUMMARY:30 Years After the Fall of the Iron Curtain - Europe’s Pasts and Futures
DESCRIPTION:The transformation of Europe – Thirty Years On\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nTalk location: Pankhurst Building Room G.01\, Clement’s Inn\, LSE \n1989 was a moment of hope and democracy for Europe. In June\, nearly 30 million Italians voted for a united Europe – some 88 per cent of voters on an 81 per cent turnout. From the summer onwards in Hungary and Poland decisive steps were taken towards multiparty democracy. By the end of the year\, in the most iconic events of 1989\, the Peaceful Revolution erupted in East Germany. \nThe end of communism had come into view and the dawn of a politically united Europe had arrived.Thirty years on the hopes of ’89 have met their difficult realities. Nationalism often appears to trump unity. Technocratic integration has still not had its ‘Monnet moment’ and led to real political unity. Yet the need for Europe is also stronger than ever. From climate change to globalisation cooperation is a necessity not a luxury. \nThe panel will bring together the ‘1989’ and ‘Millennial’ generations to build a unique dialogue about Europe’s past and future. \n\nBarbara Einhorn is Emeritus Professor of Gender Studies at the University of Sussex and author of Cinderella Goes to Market Citizenship; Gender and Women’s Movements in East Central Europe (Verso\, 1993).\nAlena Ivanova grew up in Bulgaria in the 1990s and is today an anti-Brexit campaigner in London with the Another Europe Is Possible campaign.\nMary Kaldor is a professor of Global Governance at the LSE and was a leading figure in the European peace and human rights movement of the 1980s.\nAna Oppenheim grew up in Poland in the 1990s and today is an anti-Brexit campaigner in London with Another Europe Is Possible.\nGert Weisskirchen is a former member of the German Bundestag and was active in European Nuclear Disarmament in the 1980s.\n\n*** With welcome and introductory remarks from Christos Katsioulis\, Director of the London office of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung. \nThe event will be followed by drinks and refreshments in the ground floor of the LSE Centre Building on Houghton Street.

SUMMARY:From the European Union to the Human Federation - The Federal Trust
DESCRIPTION:Lecture and Discussion with Tony Czarnecki\, presenting his forthcoming book: \n\n\n\nDemocracy for Human Federation – Coexisting with Superintelligence \n\n\nRespondent: David Wood\, Chair of London Futurists and Co-Founder of the Transhumanist Party \nThe faults in the democratic system have been with us for quite some time. At the same time\, the crisis of democracy coincides with the increasing danger arising from a number of man-made existential risks\, such as a global warming\, biotechnology or a global nuclear war\, which can happen at any time. Among the biggest risks facing Humanity in the next two decades is Artificial Intelligence (AI)\, and in particular its mature form Superintelligence – also called Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). This is the type of AI that will be thousands of times more intelligent than all humans\, and which could wipe out the human species either by a malicious intent or because of an erroneous design. \nSo\, how could humans save themselves from such a potentially perilous future? The overall solution lies in a deep reform of democracy and in changing our view from an insular\, national perspective and instead focus on the Humanity’s survival. We need a new system of democracy for two reasons. The first one is to help us navigate the next several decades safely by being united in a Human Federation created with new principles of democracy. The second one is to create Superintelligence that would inherit our Universal Values and our democratic principles so that it becomes our friend rather than an adversary. \nHowever\, to have any meaningful impact\, a deep reform of democracy must happen really quickly\, by about 2030\, while we may still retain control over the maturing Superintelligence. We have no time to create a new global organization with sufficient economic\, technological and military powers that could initially act as a de facto World Government. The most realistic option seems to be to convert and existing organization\, which could be being gradually converted into a Human Federation. \nTony Czarnecki will argue that despite the current adversary tide in the European Union\, it is this organization\, selected out of 10 possible candidates\, which after being converted into the European Federation\, has the best chance to become the foothold for the future Human Federation. \nAbout Tony Czarnecki \n\n\n\nTony Czarnecki \nFounder and Managing Partner\, Sustenis Ltd \n\n\nTony Czarnecki is an economist and a member of Chatham House\, deeply engaged in global politics and the reform of democracy. He is also an active member of London Futurists. His very wide interests spreading into politics\, technology\, science and economics\, gave him the necessary insight for searching for the solutions to minimizing Humanity’s existential risks. That was the subject of his previous book: “Who could save Humanity from Superintelligence?” In his new book ‘Democracy for Human Federation – Coexisting with Superintelligence”\, he focuses on the scope of reforms needed for democracy to withstand the Humanity’s challenges to coexist with Superintelligence in the very near future. \n\nF

By working in and reforming the EU\, we can win an international Green New Deal to save the planet and tackle inequality. \nJoin us at our Bristol meeting to discuss\, among other topics: \n* What are threats of post-Brexit trade deals for our health and the NHS? \n* What are our key issues (e.g. climate change\, workers’ rights\, migrants’ rights) and how we talk about these with people we are looking to convince? \n* What is our vision for Europe? \nThis event comes right in the middle of a General Election campaign\, so there will be plenty of time to discuss how things are going on the doorstep\, and what arguments activists have found most effective with voters.

SUMMARY:Leadership Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will teach you how to be a leader who supports their team through empowerment and helping them to become their best self.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nA healthy work-life balance is a priority for us\, therefore we are always looking for alternatives to traditional work frames that will help our members and volunteers to thrive as individuals and activists! \nOur lovely Volter Sam Carnall who works as a Scrum Master will give us an in-depth look into the insights of Servant Leadership philosophy’s concepts\, techniques and collective benefits. The ultimate goal is to introduce a framework for Volt UK to help manage its ever-growing workload and allow its teams to be self-managed. By agreeing on the most important objectives of the team\, we can focus better on doing the most valuable things first. And by limiting how much work we have on the go at once\, we can\, paradoxically\, do more. \nThis will give you valuable insight that you can bring to your personal and professional life. \nPrep work is recommended\, by reading Kanban on Wikipedia! \nWhat is Servant Leadership? \nIt’s a leadership philosophy in which the main goal of the leader is to serve their team. In contrast to traditional leadership where the main focus is the thriving of their company and profit\, a Servant Leader shares power and empowers their people\, having the needs of the employees first\, while aiming to help them achieve their best performance. This philosophy inverts the norm\, where usually leadership works top to bottom. Instead of having people working to serve the leader\, the leader exists to serve the people\, which is a bottom to top approach. \n“Do those served grow as persons? Do they\, while being served\, become healthier\, wiser\, freer\, more autonomous\, more likely themselves to become servants?” When leaders shift their mindset and serve first\, they benefit as well as their employees in that their employees acquire personal growth\, while the organization grows as well due to the employees growing commitment and engagement.” \nRobert K. Greenleaf\, the founder of Servant Leadership philosophy
