SUMMARY:EU Flag Mafia Last Night of the Proms
DESCRIPTION:It’s that time again; we are in the run up to The Last Night of The Proms\, and what has now become its own tradition. The EU flags team will be ready\, with European flags to be handed out to prom goers as they arrive. \n2019 was our most successful year. We gave out 50\,000 flags\, which was noted in the press as a “take over”\, turning the Royal Albert Hall into “a sea of blue” which secured press nationwide and in Europe serving as an effective soap box to make the case for touring artists. \nThis year is crucial. Lockdowns are easing and artists are facing an unfolding nightmare with border restrictions and visas. We feel very strongly about this so we are joining forces and supporting the ‘Let The Music Move’ and ‘Carry on touring’ campaigns that are closely working with The Musicians Union and Incorporated Society of Musicians.

SUMMARY:Should Labour align its trade policy to facilitate re-engagement with EU?
DESCRIPTION:For the UK to re-engage with the EU our trade policies will need to align\, which is one reason why the Tories are so keen to conclude new trade deals even if they bring no economic benefit\, and in some cases actually harm UK industries. What should Labour do in response to this – and what should our future trade policy be?\nSpeakers include former MEP Michael Hindley. More speakers TBC.

SUMMARY:Putting an end to Brexit means putting an end to Brexit - Brendan Donnelly
DESCRIPTION:Those of us who see the damage Brexit is doing to the country should not be hesitant about calling for Brexit to be reversed.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBrendan Donnelly was a Member of the European Parliament for the Conservative Party from 1994-1999.   He is now the director of the Federal Trust\, a research institute which studies the interactions between regional\, national\, European and global levels of government. Founded in 1945 on the initiative of Sir William Beveridge\, it has always had a particular interest in the European Union and Britain’s place in it. \nHe is no stranger to Stratford4Europe having addressed us in person on a number of occasions – always much enjoyed by his audience for his insights and his humour.

There will be a particular focus on whether the approaches adopted have delivered the best results for businesses and individuals\, what could have been done differently\, and the lessons we should take into current and future negotiations. SUMMARY:So you think you live in a democracy? Make Votes Matter
DESCRIPTION:Only two countries in Europe still use the ‘First Past the Post’ voting system for general elections – the dictatorship in Belarus\, and the United Kingdom. This means the UK Parliament does not reflect the voters\, the votes of millions of people do not count\, and the country is stuck with confrontational politics not fit to respond to the challenges of the 21st Century. Make Votes Matter is the national movement for Proportional Representation\, and promotes the adoption of a modern system of PR that makes seats match votes and means all votes count equally. \nJoin our speaker tonight\, Brigid Gardner of Make Votes Matter\, to learn more. Register for free at the Eventbrite link on this page. If you would like to contribute to the Q&A session afterwards\, please send your question/s to info@nes4eu.co.uk

SUMMARY:Cross-border data protection\, law enforcement and intelligence sharing
DESCRIPTION:This event\, led by Edoardo Celeste and hosted by the Dublin City University Law Research Centre\, the Brexit Institute and the DCU Law & Technology Research Cluster will focus on data protection\, law enforcement and intelligence sharing. Personal data processing practices by national law enforcement and intelligence authorities have been subject to intense criticism over the past few decades. Seminal data protection cases decided by the Court of Justice of the EU and by the European Court of Human Rights involved British and Irish national authorities and oversight mechanisms. The question of the protection of personal data by law enforcement and intelligence authorities in the UK and RoI is still not solved as shown by a series of pending cases before the Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights.

SUMMARY:Bring back Erasmus+
DESCRIPTION:Johnson promised Erasmus + was safe in his hands – he lied. Come and find out what you can do about it. \nSpeakers include: \n\nLloyd Russell-Moyle – MP for Brighton Kemptown\nNaomi Smith – CEO Best for Britain\nProf Juliet Lodge – Women 4 Europe\n\nMeet at the spiral pillars by the i360\, opposite the West Pier. \nBrighton and Hove for EU belongs to the ErasmusPlusAlliance alongside groups such as the Young European Movement\, Centre for International Learning\, Best for Britain\, Grassroots for Europe\, and the European Movement. \nTogether we want to get back\, for people of all ages and abilities\, the same education and training opportunities we enjoyed in the EU\, before the Tory Government snatched them away and refused to allow us to stay in schemes the EU left open for us. \nWe want to counter the myth that the government is levelling up with the replacement Turing scheme – nothing is further from the truth. This ideological government chose to deprive us of funding free education and opportunities that our EU friends take for granted. \nSo this is our fight for a better future for all. Join us and make your voices heard.

SUMMARY:Brexit isn't working. Protest at the Conservative Party Conference
DESCRIPTION:The Tories’ ruinous brexit deal is trashing the country. Peace in Northern Ireland threatened\, shortages in the shops\, crops rotting in the fields\, small businesses crushed by brexit red tape\, whole industries threatened\, some trashed. It’s time to fight back. \nKey demands: \nA better deal with the EU: Return to the Single Market and Customs Union. Free movement of workers reinstated. \nA better deal for EU citizens in the UK: End the hostile environment. Physical proof of residency for EU citizens living in the UK. Fix problems with the settled status system. \nScrap the Police Bill: The draconian PCSC bill must be scrapped. It threatens rights to protest\, GRT rights and increases stop and search powers. It’s an affront do democracy and human rights and must go.
