SUMMARY:Settled Status After The Deadline - What Happens Next?
DESCRIPTION:The deadline for Settled Status is 30th June 2021. But what happens next? \nWe know that\, for many EU and EEA citizens\, challenges are likely to continue after 30th June. There are significant delays in processing applications and fears that many vulnerable people will miss the deadline. But this issue has wider implications for all of us in term of the approach to citizens’ rights\, the implications of the ‘hostile environment’ approach to immigration\, and the end of Freedom of Movement. \nClick on the Zoom link to see who is on the panel for this event\, and to register.

SUMMARY:The UK in Europe – new perspectives
DESCRIPTION:The pain of Brexit is growing by the month. Yet our Government and the popular press continue as if it were a triumph. Current evidence is that public opinion in the UK is remarkably resistant to evidence. How is the UK seen by others? In this meeting we will be getting the perspectives of two political commentators who were born in other EU countries and live in England. \nSpeakers:\nAlex Andreou\, a man of many parts\, best known to us for his writings\, in the Guardian and New Statesman\, among others. You may have come across him through Remainiacs and its more recent incarnation\, Oh God what now! \nAnnette Dittert\, foreign correspondent and passionate filmmaker for ARD\, German TV.

SUMMARY:EU Flag Mafia Last Night of the Proms
DESCRIPTION:It’s that time again; we are in the run up to The Last Night of The Proms\, and what has now become its own tradition. The EU flags team will be ready\, with European flags to be handed out to prom goers as they arrive. \n2019 was our most successful year. We gave out 50\,000 flags\, which was noted in the press as a “take over”\, turning the Royal Albert Hall into “a sea of blue” which secured press nationwide and in Europe serving as an effective soap box to make the case for touring artists. \nThis year is crucial. Lockdowns are easing and artists are facing an unfolding nightmare with border restrictions and visas. We feel very strongly about this so we are joining forces and supporting the ‘Let The Music Move’ and ‘Carry on touring’ campaigns that are closely working with The Musicians Union and Incorporated Society of Musicians.

SUMMARY:Should Labour align its trade policy to facilitate re-engagement with EU?
DESCRIPTION:For the UK to re-engage with the EU our trade policies will need to align\, which is one reason why the Tories are so keen to conclude new trade deals even if they bring no economic benefit\, and in some cases actually harm UK industries. What should Labour do in response to this – and what should our future trade policy be?\nSpeakers include former MEP Michael Hindley. More speakers TBC.

SUMMARY:Putting an end to Brexit means putting an end to Brexit - Brendan Donnelly
DESCRIPTION:Those of us who see the damage Brexit is doing to the country should not be hesitant about calling for Brexit to be reversed.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBrendan Donnelly was a Member of the European Parliament for the Conservative Party from 1994-1999.   He is now the director of the Federal Trust\, a research institute which studies the interactions between regional\, national\, European and global levels of government. Founded in 1945 on the initiative of Sir William Beveridge\, it has always had a particular interest in the European Union and Britain’s place in it. \nHe is no stranger to Stratford4Europe having addressed us in person on a number of occasions – always much enjoyed by his audience for his insights and his humour.

SUMMARY:So you think you live in a democracy? Make Votes Matter
DESCRIPTION:Only two countries in Europe still use the ‘First Past the Post’ voting system for general elections – the dictatorship in Belarus\, and the United Kingdom. This means the UK Parliament does not reflect the voters\, the votes of millions of people do not count\, and the country is stuck with confrontational politics not fit to respond to the challenges of the 21st Century. Make Votes Matter is the national movement for Proportional Representation\, and promotes the adoption of a modern system of PR that makes seats match votes and means all votes count equally. \nJoin our speaker tonight\, Brigid Gardner of Make Votes Matter\, to learn more. Register for free at the Eventbrite link on this page. If you would like to contribute to the Q&A session afterwards\, please send your question/s to info@nes4eu.co.uk
