SUMMARY:Far from 'settled': How can we protect the rights of vulnerable EU citizens
DESCRIPTION:Panel Discussion and Q & A:\nThe UK Government’s EU Settlement Scheme is deeply problematic. Thousands of vulnerable EU citizens living in the UK are likely to slip through the net and fail to apply by the deadline of 30 June 2021. Those affected will find themselves undocumented\, and subject to the Home Office’s ‘hostile environment’. \nScott Ainslie\, Green Party MEP for London\, is hosting a lunchtime panel discussion for organisations and individuals who want to learn more about the EU Settlement Scheme – including how you can help to ensure vulnerable EU citizens secure their new status to remain in the UK.

SUMMARY:Where does Remain go now?
DESCRIPTION:Speakers from within and outside the Remain Movement will say where and how activists should focus their energies now\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\n“Remain” as such has been defeated. The timescale and route to “Return” is not clear. There is much we have learned since 2016\, but not enough to have prevailed. We need to listen to critical friends from outside our movement\, and our own feelings to understand how we can become more effective in the future. Agreed speakers include: \n\n“Otto English”\, journalist on Byline Times\nDonnachadh McCarthy\, author and campaigner on Extinction Rebellion\nAlex Feakes\, school teacher\, Lib Dem candidate\, on Making Votes Matter\nSpeaker from South London Citizens – TBC\nSimon Jeal\, Penge Councillor and Labour candidate in Orpington\nHeather Glass\, civil engineer and Lambeth for Europe organiser\n\nFrom 4.00 there will be refreshments\, and the chance to talk more among ourselves and speakers. \nYou are also invited to stay beyond 5.00\, when there will be a second meeting\, of “Lewisham West and Penge in Europe”\, where the main business will be a motion to dissolve ourselves\, and reform with other local Remain organisations.

SUMMARY:30 Years After the Fall of the Iron Curtain - Europe’s Pasts and Futures
DESCRIPTION:The transformation of Europe – Thirty Years On\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nTalk location: Pankhurst Building Room G.01\, Clement’s Inn\, LSE \n1989 was a moment of hope and democracy for Europe. In June\, nearly 30 million Italians voted for a united Europe – some 88 per cent of voters on an 81 per cent turnout. From the summer onwards in Hungary and Poland decisive steps were taken towards multiparty democracy. By the end of the year\, in the most iconic events of 1989\, the Peaceful Revolution erupted in East Germany. \nThe end of communism had come into view and the dawn of a politically united Europe had arrived.Thirty years on the hopes of ’89 have met their difficult realities. Nationalism often appears to trump unity. Technocratic integration has still not had its ‘Monnet moment’ and led to real political unity. Yet the need for Europe is also stronger than ever. From climate change to globalisation cooperation is a necessity not a luxury. \nThe panel will bring together the ‘1989’ and ‘Millennial’ generations to build a unique dialogue about Europe’s past and future. \n\nBarbara Einhorn is Emeritus Professor of Gender Studies at the University of Sussex and author of Cinderella Goes to Market Citizenship; Gender and Women’s Movements in East Central Europe (Verso\, 1993).\nAlena Ivanova grew up in Bulgaria in the 1990s and is today an anti-Brexit campaigner in London with the Another Europe Is Possible campaign.\nMary Kaldor is a professor of Global Governance at the LSE and was a leading figure in the European peace and human rights movement of the 1980s.\nAna Oppenheim grew up in Poland in the 1990s and today is an anti-Brexit campaigner in London with Another Europe Is Possible.\nGert Weisskirchen is a former member of the German Bundestag and was active in European Nuclear Disarmament in the 1980s.\n\n*** With welcome and introductory remarks from Christos Katsioulis\, Director of the London office of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung. \nThe event will be followed by drinks and refreshments in the ground floor of the LSE Centre Building on Houghton Street.

SUMMARY:Remain Reform Revolt
DESCRIPTION:An activist meeting for the anti-Brexit left in Bristol\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nBrexit is suffocating our politics and poisoning our society. \nWe can end it and transform Britain. By working together\, we can win decent homes and jobs for everyone and replace racism and division with hope and solidarity. By working in and reforming the EU\, we can win an international Green New Deal to save the planet and tackle inequality. \nJoin us at our Bristol meeting to discuss\, among other topics: \n* What are threats of post-Brexit trade deals for our health and the NHS? \n* What are our key issues (e.g. climate change\, workers’ rights\, migrants’ rights) and how we talk about these with people we are looking to convince? \n* What is our vision for Europe? \nThis event comes right in the middle of a General Election campaign\, so there will be plenty of time to discuss how things are going on the doorstep\, and what arguments activists have found most effective with voters.

SUMMARY:Leadership Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will teach you how to be a leader who supports their team through empowerment and helping them to become their best self.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nA healthy work-life balance is a priority for us\, therefore we are always looking for alternatives to traditional work frames that will help our members and volunteers to thrive as individuals and activists! \nOur lovely Volter Sam Carnall who works as a Scrum Master will give us an in-depth look into the insights of Servant Leadership philosophy’s concepts\, techniques and collective benefits. The ultimate goal is to introduce a framework for Volt UK to help manage its ever-growing workload and allow its teams to be self-managed. By agreeing on the most important objectives of the team\, we can focus better on doing the most valuable things first. And by limiting how much work we have on the go at once\, we can\, paradoxically\, do more. \nThis will give you valuable insight that you can bring to your personal and professional life. \nPrep work is recommended\, by reading Kanban on Wikipedia! \nWhat is Servant Leadership? \nIt’s a leadership philosophy in which the main goal of the leader is to serve their team. In contrast to traditional leadership where the main focus is the thriving of their company and profit\, a Servant Leader shares power and empowers their people\, having the needs of the employees first\, while aiming to help them achieve their best performance. This philosophy inverts the norm\, where usually leadership works top to bottom. Instead of having people working to serve the leader\, the leader exists to serve the people\, which is a bottom to top approach. \n“Do those served grow as persons? Do they\, while being served\, become healthier\, wiser\, freer\, more autonomous\, more likely themselves to become servants?” When leaders shift their mindset and serve first\, they benefit as well as their employees in that their employees acquire personal growth\, while the organization grows as well due to the employees growing commitment and engagement.” \nRobert K. Greenleaf\, the founder of Servant Leadership philosophy

SUMMARY:Remain Reform Revolt - Derby
DESCRIPTION:An activist meeting for the anti-Brexit left in Derby\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nAn activist meeting for the anti-Brexit left in Derby: \nBrexit is suffocating our politics and poisoning our society. \nWe can end it and transform Britain. By working together\, we can win decent homes and jobs for everyone and replace racism and division with hope and solidarity. By working in and reforming the EU\, we can win an international Green New Deal to save the planet and tackle inequality. \nJoin us at our Derby meeting to discuss\, among other topics: \n* Where are we with the Brexit process\, and how can we stop it? \n* What are our key issues (e.g. climate change\, workers’ rights\, migrants’ rights) and how we talk about these with people we are looking to convince? \n* What is our vision for Europe? \nThis event comes right in the middle of a General Election campaign\, so there will be plenty of time to discuss how things are going on the doorstep\, and what arguments activists have found most effective with voters.

SUMMARY:Remain Labour Lewisham Rally with Andrew Adonis\, Janet Daby and more!
DESCRIPTION:Stop Brexit! This major rally is for all three Lewisham CLPs and others nearby. More speakers tbc. Venue is 2 minutes from Lewisham station.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\n(The organisers have said that “People who aren’t members of the Labour Party will be welcome.”) \nThis rally is for everyone in the Labour Party who wants to stop Brexit. All members from the Lewisham constituencies\, and others nearby\, are invited. The venue is right next to the station so it’s very easy to get to. \nAndrew Adonis\, Janet Daby MP and Andrew Lewin who founded Remain Labour are confirmed as speakers and we’re working on more. (Ellie Reeves will be 8 months pregnant by then and is sending a message of support). Coming just after conference\, it’s an ideal time to discuss the issues and figure out what we need to do next\, both to stop Brexit and win the next election. \nRemain Labour is the broad-based\, grassroots campaign within the Labour Party working to stop Brexit. We turned the policy around at Conference last year and are working to push it further this year.

SUMMARY:Why should we care about Europe in the East of England?
DESCRIPTION:This is your day. A unique opportunity to tell us what matters about living and working in Norfolk\, Suffolk or the East of England\, and why you care about being part of Europe. \nWhat you say will shape how the event is run and will form the basis of a strategic plan for Norfolk and the East of England more widely. The aim is to stimulate action and develop an awareness within our local communities of how Europe benefits the East of England in towns and villages\, not just big cities. \nWe hear a lot from the usual suspects.  Those who bang on about the “Single Market”\, “The European Medicines Agency” and “Euratom” and how freedom of movement is so beneficial for all of us. People who ardently support being part of the European Union\, but can’t explain in everyday language how being part of Europe benefits them on a daily basis. And also benefits you.  We want to hear what matters to you about where you live and where you work. \nAre you passionate about supporting local markets instead of big supermarkets? Do you enjoy a walk at the Broads looking out for rare birds? Are you interested in Norfolk’s historic railways?  Do you think its important young people get help starting out on a career and people from disadvantaged backgrounds get tailored support to gain and sustain employment? Do you think rural businesses and farms should get help to diversify or small family firms receive free advice on how to grow and develop? Do you love art and culture and want more opportunities for creative jobs and growth locally? Are you passionate about climate change\, and want better environmental protections and businesses to work in more sustainable eco-friendly ways? Should your area get support to be the home of innovation\, creating more jobs? Is it a surprise that European investment has contributed to all these aspects and more? \nHow does being in Europe make your life easier\, better and more rewarding? This event is designed for people who can tell us about their work\, their family\, their friends and neighbours\, their passions\, their local community\, and how being part of Europe has made a significant difference in one or more of these areas. We want people to realise these benefits\, but crucially to also be empowered to communicate them in a way that will enable other people to form their own positive links with Europe. \nThe day will follow the dynamic format of Open Space Technology\, facilitated by Improbable\, internationally renowned as one of the UK’s most experienced Open Space Technology facilitators. Open Space is a great way for groups to think\, talk and take action together\, and you can find out more about how the event will be run below. \nFeel free to bring a friend. You set the agenda\, nothing is censored\, every voice gets heard. \nTickets are free (lunch and refreshments will be provided) but please book your place via registration form. \nPlease share this invitation with pro European people you know and book fast as places are limited. \n\n\n\nWe are delighted to be working in partnership with Norfolk for Europe to bring the Together EU campaign to you \n\n .
